Dans un petit mois sortira Day Of The Dead (non, ce n’est le titre du nouveau film George A. Romero), un tribute au Grateful Dead initié par les frères Dessner (The National). Cet enregistrement caritatif est destiné à collecter des fonds pour la Red Hot Organization, une ONG qui œuvre dans la lutte contre le Sida.
Day Of The Dead n’est rien moins qu’un triple album hommage fabriqué avec un line-up cinq étoiles. Voyez plutôt : The National (ensemble ou dégroupé), Courtney Barnett, Sharon Van Etten, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, Kurt Vile, Mumford & Sons, Anohni, Angel Olsen, Wilco, Charles Bradley, The Tallest Man On Earth, Cass McCombs, The Walkmen, Local Natives, Bill Callahan, The Flaming Lips, Fucked Up… Il y a même une Mina Tindle, mais on ne sait pas pour l’instant s’il s’agit de la chanteuse française, auteure d’un très joli Parades en 2014.
Perfume Genious et Sharon Van Etten se sont emparés de To Lay Me Down avec le concours, entre autres, de la rythmique de The National. Il est fort probable que la New-Yorkaise et Mike Hadreas ne se soient pas croisés pour chanter ce titre. En effet, les notes sous la vidéo postée sur YouTube indiquent que la première a enregistré sa voix dans le garage d’Aaron’s à Brooklyn, le second ayant travaillé la sienne à Seattle.
Cette distance supposée n’altère en rien la sensibilité qui traverse cette reprise.
